The Best Neighbourhood Bars
Nothing trumps local knowledge and when that knowledge is as good as this, it would be remiss of us not to share it. Neighbourhood bars should be thought of as your home away from home - relaxed, inviting and accessible - here we sample our way through some of Auckland's best neighbourhood bars so you can party by postcode.
Stafford Road Wine Bar
141 Queen Street, Auckland
You know a bar is the business when Real Estate agents actively use it in the promotion of one of their listings - it's that good in fact that we're surprised Northcote Point isn't more densely populated. The best little tapas bar this side of the Nippon Clip-ons, Stafford Road Wine Bar is home to one of the most diverse wine lists we've seen in quite some time and an engaging wait staff that are only to happy to offer their knowledge. Neighbourhood planners, this IS how it's done.

The Good Home Birkenhead
83 Birkenhead Avenue, Auckland
Recently transformed from what was once the Slipp Inn, The Good Home has had the reception that hospitality developers dream of if user reviews are to be believed. An inviting gastro pub located in the Highbury Shops area of Birkenhead, we're sold on the exceptional menu which includes the likes of bacon wrapped scallops and rich pork belly bites, but it's the atmosphere that's the real draw card - well recommended.

Charlie Baxter's
121 Main Highway, Auckland, 1060
Charlie Baxter's has been taking care of Ellerslie locals for a few years now and in that time developed quite the reputation for being a cracking small bar where locals can easily while away a few hours without a moments thought - the perfect hang-out for any suburb, right?

Chapel Bar & Bistro
147 Ponsonby Road, Auckland
You don't get over 6,000 Facebook likes without doing something right - agree? Chapel is a Ponsonby institution, in fact, it's hard to imagine the strip without it. Drinking, dining, people watching or busting a move, whatever your poison, Chapel Bar will serve you well.

Malt Public House
442 Richmond Road, Auckland
Leafy, tree-lined streets. An easy commute to the city. A bar like Malt - would it be fair to suggest Grey Lynn has it all? Comfort is the key at this suburban icon, where portions are big, drinks are plentiful (Monteith's range) and conversation is willing.
