The ViewAuckland Review
The Attic Bar & Restaurant is a relatively recent addition to the bustling scene in Mission Bay and a welcome one at that. The sign outside suggests ‘it’s time to go up a level’ and once you venture one storey above the Tamaki Drive strip you’ll be glad you did.
The Attic isn’t huge, yet it manages to comfortably accommodate four distinct areas. You can enjoy a pint in the bar area, sample from the impressive food menu in the restaurant, linger over a glass of wine in the lounge or enjoy the views of the waterfront from the balcony.
The lounge area is particular appealing. The bar, dining area and balconies are bright and airy and decked out with wooden furniture, giving them a fairly traditional, if upmarket, pub feel. But tucked away to the side, past the log fire, the lounge exudes cosiiness and comfort. With low ceilings, comfy armchairs and decorated with a mish-mash of wallpaper, an eclectic mix of books and antique collectables, you’ll be more than happy to while away a couple of hours, or longer, here.
The food at The Attic is also a high point. You can enjoy brunch, lunch, dinner or platters here and it’s definitely a step above your average pub grub, with top quality ingredients and a varied menu giving it more of a brasserie feel.
There are various food and drink promotions going on during the week and the bar opens late, until 1am, on Fridays and Saturdays. If you’re a sports fan there is a large screen showing all the big games but it’s not intrusive enough to detract from the chilled out, cool atmosphere.
Whether you’re after a quick drink, a quality three-course meal or a lingering drink, The Attic is a chic bar with a laidback vibe making it the perfect meeting place for everyone.
