Stopped by here a month or two ago when we were in the area, because we've heard the name mentioned a lot. Love the location! It's a shame they're not licensed it would be a great place to sit on the deck with a wine and that view. We shared the lamb tagine & couscous and it was amazing. The decor is pretty sweet too, would love to try breakfast here sometime. A shame it's on the other side of the bridge!
We recommend the food, service and views from this cosy cafe and commend the staff on an excellent menu. Well done to you owners & staff of Takapuna Beach Cafe & Store, keep up the good work.
I have to say I'm a fussy eater yet I've become a regular here, and I live in Sandringham. The choice on the menu is good though I do hope they change it regularly. Generally we've had good service. For me, Takapuna Beach Cafe loses points for cramming too many people into the space available which is a shame because it is in an excellent location. Auckland urgently needs more waterview/beachside eateries!!!
We went to Takapuna Beach Cafe for lunch on a Friday and felt a bit let down. Having only read good reviews I was expecting a lot more than was delivered. It was busy so our group of three were put on a table clearly only suitable for two and right near the cashier. The waiting staff were a mixed bunch - we encountered five different staff during the course of the meal. One particular girl had a very bad attitude which came across clearly in her rude manner. The omelette, while tasty, was overcooked and came without the bacon which was ordered. The mushrooms were cold and the bread, which was supposed to be sourdough but it was grainy bread, was soggy. The chicken salad was the only winning meal on this day and the mango and coconut smoothie was also good. Overall it really doesn't deserve a three, but a two is too low.
Weekday lunch, very busy and not much room to sit. Tables for 2 were used for 3 and made it a bit cramped. Our order obviously went missing and after 30 minutes, other people who arrived later were having their meals served. Waitress did go and find out what happened but instead of offering an apology we were told no point complaining, that's how it is, tough luck!! We both found that approach rather rude! The food which then arrived soon after was only ok-ish. Cheese on omelet was melted but had a watery puddle on top, onions were not not that nice either and we left rather disappointed.
This cafe is a pleasure to visit. The staff are very welcoming and personable, and the use of the lobster to tell you when a table is free allows you to appreciate the local scenery while waiting.
Service is excellent with a broad range of food and drinks to satisfy even the fussiest eater. The portabello mushrooms were seasoned well, and the kitchen delivered promptly. The barrista is incredible and I will be frequenting this cafe again and again!
Dined here with a group of 7, the food selection was excellent - something for everyone! The service was friendly & prompt.
You can dress casual or dress up & wouldnt feel out of place.
You could also order food from 'The Store' cabinet & have it brought through to the restaurant side.
Views are amazing & the restaurant is light & bright with a trendy, swish decor.
The cakes are delicious & they do boxed meals to take away such as Prawn & Zucchini Fritters with Chilli Citrus Jam, Smoked Fish Croquettas with a Green Olive Tapenade & a Grilled Squid & Corizo Skewers with Coriander Paste...Yum!!
You can even order a Gourmet Picnic Basket to have on the beach or grassed reserve - this comes with cutlery & even a picnic rug!
Lots of yummy Gourmet Burgers to 'takeaway' too
The Gelato & Sorbets are devine!
Well worth a visit... the Cafe opens at 7am!
