This outpost on Hurstmere Road has been refurbished, revisited and reborn over the years—and it's fair to say it's current incarnation is it's best yet.

Takapuna Bar has lifted its game and the interior is evidence of this. It’s tasteful, spacious and surprisingly understated. They don’t have a private function area at the back – the plush velvet drapes veil the pokie area!

A corner site, The Takapuna bar has a small outdoor area to the front which is well positioned to cater for the revellers spilling out on to the street on a non-school night.

Takapuna is becoming increasingly popular with the slick, young crowd on this side of the bridge; a younger less affluent version of the Ponsonby scene.

The Takapuna bar certainly attracts its fair share of these posey youngsters however in the main the refurb has now seen it attracting increasingly more 30 somethings.

The bar features a pretty comprehensive list of beers including Macs, Stellar and Speights on tap and the house champagne was a reasonably priced $9.50 a glass.

They also have food available which we noticed is brought over from the café across the road (at least you know it’s fresh).

There are now a few good bars in Takapuna and this is one that is worth a second look—just hope the summer nights stay warm and the boy racers don’t miss-judge a roundabout and gatecrash your conversation!
