Would have to say wasn't impressed with the food - especially given the price. Attended as part of a private function a few months ago, we had Set Menu - Tasted the squid and was fine, but no different to any typical pub meal standard while the Risotto was extremely bland, several of us tried to improve this with salt .. and more salt .. and I normally never add salt to anything! Unfortunately left quite disappointed.
Had the pleasure of lunch at O'Connell Street Bistro yesterday - it was delicious!
We had a set menu and I chose the Confit Duck leg & homemade Merguez sausage cassoulet, which was melt in the mouth. Most of our table ordered this as we knew how hard it is to get Duck perfect - so best leave it to the experts!
Others with me had Twice baked Goats cheese & Thyme souffle, poached new seasons Asparagus or the Cambrian Beef sirloin with pont neuf Potatoes - I noticed nobody wanted to share either!
After that desert - they were huge and extremely rich but you only live once so why not! Baked Tahitian Vanilla creme Brulee or Treacle tart, marinated Prunes & Mascarpone while I had the White Chocolate delice, smashed Nougat, fresh Raspberries & manuka Honey crisp - which was just like a soft Milky Bar chocolate pudding.
After being stuffed to the brim - I needed an afternoon nap!
Highly recommend checking this place out. As well as lovely food the staff are very friendly and professional!
Have to say I was underwhelmed by the food at O'Connell Street as I had heard so much about the place. Went as part of a big group and had the set menu. Squid was lovely but very simple, my duck was too salty and the chocolate dessert was extremely rich with the presentation not worthy of its price tag. The creme brulee that came out looked very plain too. I wonder if it was because we had the set menu. Our waiter was fantastic however. Probably wont go back.
Having only heard good reviews about O'Connell Street Bistro, I had high hopes for my dinner outing. Couldn't fault the service, both in the bar and the restaurant and the ambiance was good too. Unfortunately the food did not meet my expectations. For a starter I had the squid which was fine but nothing special. My duck main was not good what so ever. It was tough and salty, in fact the whole main course was salty, parsnips included. Another diner at a different table also had the duck and I overheard her giving the same feedback to the waiter. The chocolate dessert was OK, but the presentation was pretty basic given the price. Others at the table had mixed views, but all were a little underwhelmed. The wine selection was outstanding so I had plenty to drink to make up for the food.
a maze ing!!! - arrived with high expectations and the restaurant didnt fail to deliver. The service, the ambiance, the food - 10 points!! Have not had such a perfect meal (four people, three courses) in a long time. Each meal was sublime. Its up there cost wise but oh so worth EVERY cent. We will certainly be back
One of the nicest restaurants in Auckland, very small and tucked away, but both the food and service is amazing. A lovely place to go, one of my favourites.
