Pre booked O'Carrolls for a lunch of 35 on a Friday. We got to the venue our area was set up for us and the bar service was great. I had pre ordered lunch orders. The lunches all came out fast and flowed from the kitchen smoothly. For a small kitchen to serve 35 lunches in a short time frame, the chef did extremely well. The people who had steak were happy about the large size of the steak.
Overall we had a great time and enjoyed the food and helpful staff. We will return! Thank you staff of O'Carrolls Freehouse for your great service
Came in around Lunch time on the first Friday of the Rugby World Cup. Awesome day, awesome weather, but the food at O'Carrolls Freehouse has really put us off Eating out in Auckland. It just wasn't nice. The bar staff etc were friendly enough, but they ought to take a look at their menu. Whoever was in charge of this should be ashamed. Will not be returning to O'Carrolls.
Popped in for a pint mid week. Pub was almost deserted, a post-credit-crunch wasteland in what ought to be the Vulcan oasis. Sadly all tap beers were "out of stock" with the exception of a couple of local offerings (Lion Red and Speights). Staff said this was due to an order mix-up after a busy weekend, but I suspect there's bigger problems beneath the surface.
Food was OK if you like deepfried or microwave, but little freshness was in evidence. Shame - this pub used to sizzle along, not limp.
We went to O'Carrolls on a Saturday night. The place was the busiest of the Vulcan Lane pubs. Loads of punters both inside and outside. The bar is long, narrow and dark with your token Irish decorations on the wall.
The bar man was English and did a great job of handling the busy place while his colleague whipped out front for a smoke. The house wine is shocking, but for $6 what do you expect? Still, if they could have found their wine list my friend would have ordered me something else - unfortunately for me, this was not the case so he settled for the cheap stuff.
The crowd was an international mix, young and casual. A few people were in watching the rugby, as were we. Overall, O'Carrolls is a bit of a token Irish bar, probably set up to capture the tourists rather than locals.
O'Carrolls is a great, relaxed bar in the best tradition of Irish bars. The wine list is next to nothing but I'd still settle for a Kilkenny!
Will be back to O'Carrolls sometime soon!
