Bad customer service!!!I have been here a number of times and was generally ok with the experience, nothing special but an ok local... However a recent expereince of a mother and baby being ABUSED by staff for nothing has lead me to the conclusion this place is not a nice place to go and I would not recommned it as a place to go.

A friend and me went to the Northcote Tavern in Northcote point after being recommended it by a local who highly rates the pub. The pub itself is a beautiful old building surrounded by a large courtyard and lots of parking spaces, which makes it very accessible.

The Northcote Tavern offers a friendly and cosy atmosphere, with a great selection of wine and beer and an appealing food menu. I would highly recommend ordering the Surf and Turf, which came with a large piece of sirloin steak, a salad, and king prawns coated in a garlicky sauce and fries.

I would go to Northcote Tavern for the service, although the staff were all very friendly and welcoming.

Even though they were extremely busy as it was a Saturday night, we were impressed with how quickly the meals came out. I recommend going with a big appetite, as the meals are massive, overall being great value for money all round. The Northcote tavern is a great place to go and dine with friends and family as the food is amazing and the atmosphere is super friendly and welcoming. I would go as far as to say that this is one of the best pubs in Auckland.

Add us to the disappointed group. The lounge bar was a huge creche so we went to the public bar. We were ignored by the obnoxious, dour barman who instead cashed up a pokie players winnings who arrived at the bar after us. When we did get our drinks (Guinness and a small, average quality Chardonnay) it cost $17.90 which is more like Viaduct prices, not public bar (which incidentally has no character despite the lovely building it's in). When I questioned the 'worlds worst' barman he told me it was cheap and walked away- pathetic service.
We won't be back to the Northcote Tavern.

The Northcote Tavern is our "local" and we have recently used it a few times. The garden outside is a great place to meet for a drink in summer and the food is pretty good at the moment, too. It's pub food, but good quality stuff. I like the steak sandwich best. We've taken the kids to Northcote Tavern (I guess we are one of those annoying families that a previous reviewer mentioned), and they are always happy with the meals and the treat of getting a big fizzy drink in a glass. They can move around a bit more if it is nice enough to sit outside. Coffee from the attached espresso bar is good too, and the staff friendly.

Good pub for those looking for a laid back atmosphere. Family friendly, often see kids there. Large outdoor area, staff are friendly enough. Raffels & quiz nights are on the cards most weeks.

Used to be a good honest pub serving the best guiness on the shore.
Now it is more like a creche on a Saturday evening.
Recommended if you enjoy the company of the obnoxious offspring of the northcote point former dinkies.

This Pub has all the comforts of home, all the locals or regualrs are always making new comers welcome only if you willing to even look up and not be too snobby. The bar staff are efficent and always cleaning and making your vist comfortable. The food not so easy to find but once found its great!! and coffee not many pubs these days have a sole cafe side its very nice if you not looking fo the whole pub experience.

Could be great but...
Not one good beer on tap. Poor quality & inaccessible food.
Easily remedied but I'm told by regulars it probably never will be. Shame to let it down by such simple mistakes. Other than that it could’ve been great.
Not uncommon in NZ though. Ask anyone from the UK & they’ll say the same thing. Why can’t NZ get it’s Pubs right? Such simple things let them down.

Just love it! Fantastic atmosphere, unpretentious and comfortable. If you love the REAL South Island pubs you'll love this place, it's the last of it's kind with real character and we hope it never gets taken over by someone who trendies it up and loses the soul. One word of advice to the owners - advertise the place, and ensure decent, reliable food and the place will keep humming.

The Northcote Tavern has been the start of many saturday benders for my mates and I. No sign of any hot chicks, just an old-fashioned pub where the boys can talk bollocks!
