Mojo Garage, Newmarket - Cafe Review

Welcome to Auckland, Mojo! I know you’ve been around here and there, but this is your first true proper café and that makes me very happy!

Food

An all day, everyday menu including a really good selection of breakfast options (the usuals through to Shakshuka, poached eggs with cumin, feta and chilli, which I must try next time). I went for mainly counter food on my two visits there (one of these was on their second day) including an enormous flatbread sandwich and a fantastic light but dense (make sense much?) scone. Great value for money too, as the sizes are very generous (the eggs benedict delivered to the table next to me was epic!)

Drinks

Fantastic coffee… like, REALLY good. Seconds were ordered.

Vibe

It’s in an old garage, so it’s very much in the distressed industrial category. That said, for all the concrete and metal, it feels very warm and cosy. Beware trying to find the toilets though – getting to them is akin to the opening titles of Get Smart. Even the staff couldn’t quite explain where they were.

Service

Both days I visited Mojo Garage, the service was to a pretty high standard. I particularly like the concierge-like welcome when you enter. The staff seem confident and there are lots of them.

Highlights

The counter selection is very impressive – get your scone heated, lap on some butter and you’re away.

The Bottom Line

A welcome addition to Newmarket, Mojo Garage has started off with a hiss and a roar. If they can keep it up, they’re onto a winner.
