Definitely the best on the strip for South East Asian food. Great atmosphere and always a nice vibe! Love the service and the cocktails are devine. Personally love the fish curry and the octopus. A MUST TRY!!

I love Asian Fusion food and as I love Blue Breeze Inn I have to like Mekong Baby. The restaurant is bigger and has better acoustics to Blue Breeze. Very popular, and like most places you can’t book so have to try your luck. But a nice drink and a prop up at the bar and 45 minutes goes fast.As in most modern fusion restaurants, things arrive as fast as the kitchen can make them, and in this case our first Small Beginnings and salad got to us quick smart as soon as we were seated. Shredded Chicken with grapefruit and coconut was really amazing and full of flavour and chilli kick but we thought it would have been nicer with a more subtle fruit like Watermelon or Papaya not grapefruit.Wok fried squid was great, it was nice to have the crunch with the freshness of the salad dish. The Roast Duck I found tricky to eat lady like considering they don’t seem to supply knives, just forks, spoons and chop sticks. It came with Pineapple, Potatoes, Shallots, Peanuts in a Massaman Curry served with a side of rice. It was lacking maybe a little salt and some kick. It was a little bland which was the opposite to the chicken dish. The Pork belly was our favourite with Caramelised Chilli & Soy sauce and Asian Slaw.Next time I want to try the ‘Let’s just eat” & they’ll serve up a selection of Mekong Baby’s favourite dishes for $60pp. Sounds good to me.

Mekong Baby is Asian Fusion to the T! The very well known restaurant on Ponsonby didn't fail to deliver either! We were greeted by the restaurant manager who showed us to our table and from there we had a very informative and polite waiter who was quick on service and better yet with a smile. While browsing the menu you mouth is already starting to water - we choose the Roast Duck & Lychee Salad and the Braised Pork Belly, Caramelised Chilli & Soy. The Braised Pork Belly was cooked perfectly and left you wishing you could lick the plate clean. The only downfall would be their two booking times due to their popularity.

Decor is really nice and there is a good vibe. When we headed there for dinner there was a bit of a crowd and that definitely did impact on service. Fortunately, conversation was flowing so it wasn't too much of a bother. We were feeling somewhat adventurous so opted for their "let's eat" mystery option for $60 a head. So an assortment of their popular dishes would be served, the menu itself had lots of great options so would have be hard to have picked otherwise. The food annoyingly came at inconsistent periods (server was absent most of the night) but when it did it was worth the wait - some really interesting mixes of flavours in the curry, pork belly, sashimi, squid and salads. Usually, I'm not a big fan of fusion cuisine but it was interesting enough and different enough to make it memorable. We had a nice coconut sago to end the night. Will definitely aim to come back on a less crowded night and probably have a few ideas what I want to try next.

A group of us had dinner at Mekong Baby on Friday night. Despite it being the busy time of the year, we were impressed that Mekong Baby had not overbooked itself like some other restaurants in the area. We opted for the set menu and were delighted with the choice. Starting with stuffed Beetleleaves, green papaya salad, spicy chicken salad, calamari, pork belly, lamb cutlets - all delicious. Thinking that was it we were presented with a melt in the mouth goat curry, roti and rice. But wait there's more - a sago icecream dish that was yummy. The service and vibe with the turntables playing in the background was just right. Good drinks menu too. We will return without a doubt.

I have eaten here twice for dinner and LOVED each experience. The decor is fun & welcoming & provides a relaxed casual dining experience for small or large groups equally.
The standout dishes for me where the smashed green papaya salad - spicy, zingy & fresh flavours. The braised pork belly was melt in your mouth juicy & succulent. I would have liked to try everything!
The prices are reasonable and sharing the main plates & salads with a group makes for an inexpensive night out with friends, with plenty to go around. Gorgeous light fittings, intricate wall graffiti art makes Mekong Baby a hot spot & is on the top of my list to suggest to friends.

My table of 13 dined at Mekong Baby on Friday night last week. I liked the feel of the buzzy place and the cool hanging lights were awesome. We were greeted by nice staff and seated at a long table in the dining area. We were fortunate enough for our size group to get to choose from the full menu and be served reletively at the same time.

For my starter I chose Prawn cakes which were nice enough and much larger a serving for $8 than my friends Betel leaves with crab which was TINY but only $6. The squid another friend got was generous and once she had finished she was wondering how she would fit in her main.

For my main I chose the Pork Belly, Apple slaw with chilli Caramel which was the best choice. Very melt in your mouth. So much so that my friend that had the Wagu was dissappointed with the 'neither here nor there' flavour and wanted to try mine. Then wished he had ordered that. The curries were enjoyed and the lamb shoulder too.
Like Blue Breeze Inn the crab seems to be running away from the knowledge they are about to die for our taste buds because yet again it was not available. I'm starting to think that like some tigers, crab might be becoming extinct to.

Then to finish it off I decided to stretch my stomach to the Lime-Papaya Meringue Pie. The floavours were lovely but my expectations of a deep dish pie with thick meringue fell flat like the melting tiny peaks and tart like thickness.

The night would have been more enjoyable and I probably would have gone back but clearing our bill was a nightmare. Don't ask me why the staff member would do this but the first 5 of our group to leave paid for drinks only and not their food, or so it would appear, as the rest of us went to pay and all our drinks were paid for and the food that was left was not all of what we had. So in any case I think people paid less as they never paid there actual individual bills and I was left with $100 extra to pay, and no way of chasing anyone for it. My most

Stopped in for a drink last night at Mekong Baby along Ponsonby Road - it was packed. Lovely Maitre d to great us and find us a table. Mate had a Chilly Ginger Mojito which blew her head off in the most refreshing way of course! And I went with the Chilly Ginger Mo-No-No - perfect to clear the sinuses.
Looking forward to going there to sample the food next.

Had dinner here on Saturday night and it was thoroughly enjoyable! The goat curry was especially lovely and the meat was so tender that you could literally break it up with your chopsticks! There were 3 of us, and we had a small sharing plate, a salad and a large sharing plate and I would say that was just about the perfect amount of food. We did end up having dessert too as it all sounded so lovely, but it wasn't really necessary! The only negative I have is that the red bean fudge was extremely sweet, and that is coming from someone with a sweet tooth, but it wasn't a huge issue as everything else was so nice. Great atmosphere and the staff were very attentive without being overbearing and seemed genuinely concerned that we were having a good time. I also felt that it was very reasonably priced - my bill came to $54, which included 2 glasses of wine, which I think is great for the quality of food. I definitely plan on returning!

A 'real treat' was how I'd describe this place. Busy, chaotic, warm and welcoming - Mekong Baby has all the elements that in my opinion stand for a great dining experience. I love the cocktails here but its the papaya salad that really had me going. I've been searching all around Auckland for a decent one and to find one smack bang in the middle of Ponsonby - fantastic.
I'd fully recommend a visit to Mekong Baby - it's an enjoyable experience especially in groups and at the end of the day, it's all about sharing good times.

Great lunch today at this Ponsonby newbie. Really like Moochowchow but this asian-fusion restaurant might give it a run for its money.
Service was fast and attentive without being too intrusive but the real highlight of Mekong Baby was the pork...it disintegrated in my mouth. Looking forward to a return visit when cocktails are more appropriate!

Dropped in to Mekong Baby for a drink (and delicious betel-wrapped morsel) last week. Based on a great first impression, definitely planning to go back and give the menu a proper going-over.

Such a wonderfully vibrant setting here and although only just opened, I can imagine Mekong Baby being the darling of Ponsonby for a lot longer yet.
The cocktails are outrageously good and the combination with the food which packs a decent kick (spice wise) is perfect. My favourite dish of our visit was the fried squid with mint and nuoc cham. Fantastic.
Looking forward to a return outing at Mekong Baby soon, a great start team!
