Very dissappointed.7 of us went for lunch the Mac's Brewbar after daughter's graduation. We had to wait a long time & no one came to take drink orders so we had to go ask. Finally came ( were fairly busy to be fair)I am Gluten Free & quietly asked the waitress when she finally came & took the meal orders if I could just have a fried tomato & a few pieces of bacon as there was nothing on the menu I could eat.She said 'hmm I will have to check with the chef'. She went away & came back & said 'no we are busy & you will have to order from the menu'. I said there was nothing I could eat.So I had to sit & watch 6 friends eat their lunch while I drank a glass of orange. They were embarassed & I couldn't believe the terrible service & attitude of this restaurant. I might add when we got our meals about 2.15pm there was only 1 other table of guests in the restaurant at the time.Poor Poor Poor!!!
Came to Mac's Brewbar during the week after work to Quiz night, havent been to one of these before. It was really fun (even though we lost) a good selection of bar snacks and good fun vibe. Back again next Monday.
After reading the mixed reviews on this website i wasnt sure what to expect. We went to Macs Brewbar on a Thursday night recently with a group of 6 of us. Decided to try the pizza they have. We left several hours later very content. I would very recommend this Macs bar for any social gathering. Great work.
Atmosphere - Mac's Nuffield Street Trading Co. has offers big open spaces so it doesn't feel too claustrophobic in here. There's a little conservatory area for a cosier feel, but it gets a bit dark here when the sun sets. I guess some call that romantic, but a little too dark if you're having food.
Seating is comfortable, they've got some nice big couches in the main area.
Live acoustic music on the night I visited (Thursday). Was good.
Service -- Friendly and easy going.
Was particularly impressed with the Duty Manager. When asked how the meal was going, my sister commented that the burger patty was a tad on the salty side. Scott (the Manager) later comes back to offer us a free dessert as he had actually tasted the patty and agreed that it was salty. Very unexpected to have this kind of customer service. So, definitely scores points there.
Food -- was a let down. Edible, but disappointing apart from the fries which were fried to perfection.
As mentioned, the burger patty was a tad salty and my duck meal was cold by the time it came out. I have a feeling it was sitting on the bench for a bit while my sister's meal (piping hot) was being prepared. Duck breast was on the rubbery side as well.
My sister reports that the meals were good on a previous visit. Perhaps a bad day for the chef? But pretty disappointing considering it wasn't busy at the time we visited.
Drinks -- Pretty good. Cocktails were nice. As usual, they've got their range of Mac's drinks available.
Overall experience:
Would still come here for drinks, but a little dubious about the food - apart from the fries. Beer and fries for future visits? Good customer service though.
Don't order food- it's a complete RIP-OFF : the Wellbeing platter advertised for 2-4 people consisted of 8 slices of salami, 2 slices of prosciutto, 4 tiny cubes of feta cheese, a couple of slices of toasted bread and some 3 days old dry celery sticks. All this for a hefty & ridiculous $44.
Well designed space that's perfect for an afternoon drink or catch up session with your friends. The bar staff are really friendly and it's a handy walk to the train station for that ever so slightly intoxicated train ride home.
Go the Mac's Brew Bar. What an enjoyable place to have an icy cold drop on a Thursday night after work and a delicious light meal! The staff are super friendly and helpful, and you are guaranteed to be entertained each Thursday night with a superb live guitarist playing plenty of songs to enjoy and groove along to. This really is a great place to meet up with friends or just chill out after work with an inviting atmosphere. Thanks Mac's Team you sure know how keep the punters happy.

one of the best bars in Auckland, Love the macs beer on tap. We often head there for after work drinks on a Friday and always seem to end there on a Saturday night to watch the rugby the live music is always the best. Staff are clearly at the top of their game and know what they are doing.
