American style chain restaurant offers huge portions. Half bar, and half family restaurant, it tries to be all things to all people. I have a love hate relationship with Lone Star, I really want to love it but usually leave feeling disappointed with the overall experience. The marketing concept is appealing, the menu sounds delicious, and the atmosphere a distinctly American feel. Without exception, it's usually the service that lets us down. Last time I ate there, it was the total absence of highchairs and the promise that we would get one...eventually...that never came. For a place that has $10 kids meals, and a place packed full of families, it was just stupid not to have one. I circled the whole restaurant myself and couldn't find another one anywhere. The time before that, we were told it would be at least 45 minutes before we would get a table. It was like they were asking us to leave. We went to the bar, and before you could even order and pay for a pre-dinner cocktail, the hostess was calling our name and we had a table in the restaurant! Crazy. In a few months time, I forget these experiences and then I go back. PS - change the rib sauce from a sickly sweet Asian flavour to a authentic American BBQ, and you won't be able to keep me away...no matter how bad the service is.
Nice layout and theming. The bar area is nice, but the food is overpriced, for what it is. I got the ribs and they were dry even though they were covered in sauce. The best thing on the menu is the Lone Star Loaf with garlic butter.
Unfortunately have not tried any of their food: had to wait ages before being appoached by their metre-d-... It never happened 'cause they were too busy with other customers. After standing in the waiting area being totally ignored we had to leave.
Love lone star - my fav is the lasso of hog... Too big a meal for most though, staff are good. No complaints here and would def visit again. Great decor and atmosphere
Great food, great venue, great staff/service, nuff said
We went to Lone Star Newmarket last night in a large group for a friend's birthday. I had the Salmon which was absolutely perfecto! Probably the best I have ever had.
3 others in our group had the Angus Steak. 1 was fine however the other 2 had huge amounts of fat which they cut off and kept to one side. At the end of the meal, they mentioned it to the waitress who said "that's how they come". When paying the bill, the guy at the counter was equally uninterested in thus huge amount of fat on the plate. He appeared to have no public relations experience, and really didn't know what else to say other than "right...ahhh....", and he left it at that! (One of our group took a photograph of the fat with her new 10MB birthday camera!) The bar staff, waitresses and kitchen staff all seemed to be anxious to get out of the place, with friends coming in and hanging around to drag them out.
This place has gone downhill badly. There seems to be no management whatsoever. We spent over $500. A simple apology and a free dessert for the 2 diners who were disappointed would have gone a long way.
Don't know if we will be back....
We came for a dinner. We were nicely welcomed. They have good food and vines. Just do not order Spare ribs as there are not any meat left on them - just bones.
We arrived on a Tuesday night and were seated promptly by the matire’d.
To start with I ordered a Mint Chi, which came promptly, served by a very friendly bar staff. I had the lassoo of hog, described as a "Huge rolled loin of pork... served with crackling on...with buffalo chips." These were the main parts of the meal that I was looking forward to.. and so as it was, these were the most disappointing parts. It was not so much a "rolled loin of pork," more a loin chop and the skin was definitely not crackling. It was very rubbery instead, and the buffalo chips were dry and brown, not golden and crispy like the tables around us. My partner ordered the roast vege salad, and this arrived with the veges being in the same state as my potatoes.
Our waitress seemed to have forgotten about us after taking the orders, with another member of staff serving us our plates, and she didn’t even come around to check that everything was OK. It seemed like she was avoiding us, having finished our dishes and spending the next 20 minutes trying to catch her eye as I was keen to have dessert as they did desserts very well. Unfortunately, sick of waiting for her to clear our plates, we decided to get the bill and leave. On paying the lady at the till asked us how our meals were. “Alright” we replied disappointedly, but she didn’t seem to care anyway.
How very disappointing, this is the 2nd time that Lone Star has failed as a good restaurant and we will definitely not be coming back and telling our friends not to dine there either. There is better service and better food out there for that price.
