Very Disappointed by service. Decided to come to HQ instead of Jack Tar... What a mistake! Staff were rude. Messed up several of our orders. As well as taking a ridiculous amount of time to prepare food. After asking about our orders that were messed up waitress snapped at us and stormed off... Food was oily, Eggs benny was rock hard. Possibly should consider removing restaurant from it's name if it can't handle having customers who have come to eat, not just drink...Very unwelcoming. This is the last time this business is getting any of my money...
We love going to H Q for brunch in the weekends, it's a great place to meet up with your kids and catch up on their eventful lives and afterwards when you all go your separate ways for the day my husband and I enjoy a walk around the viaducts. Keep up the great work H Q
At this point, I'll reserve my decision. At 11.13am 03/04/2010 @ table 20. My wife, son & I breakfasted. I picked the tab and thought the $105.90 on the excessive side. Paid by eftpos and hours later checked the receipt to find I had been charge for another table as well. Language difficulties lead me to believe we were served by the same Brazilian waitress referred to in an earlier review, clerk '0005'. My concern is this. I phoned HQ asap which was 7.14pm and understandably got no response Saturday night etc. I am a wrinklie, (an older customer) and I may be sight impaired and missed seeing it? I'm looking for a contact website, email address to contact HQ & put this matter right. So far I have their physical address & l/line phone # from receipt but I cannot find any other means of communication. I will attempt to contact HQ again! This is my only way of recording incident.
Felt a bit sorry for the Brazilian waitress who was obviously out of her depth and left unsupported by the other staff on Monday afternoon.The food was very disappointing- Very bitter and unpleasant tasting Caesar salads with extremely overcooked eggs and containing ingredients we had requested be omitted- possible the waitress's mistake there. (Also the ashtray was left, dirty, on the table)When we complained, the waitress simply removed the dishes with no communication as to whether they would be replaced or whether we should choose something else- no menus were provided in any case.After this the manager came out- along with a very defensive attitude- and blamed the problem: a) on 'cos lettuce often being bitter...' (come on love, do you think it's my first time eating one of these? think i know how they should taste...) and then b) on the waitress not having very good english or waitressing skills... Well why leave her on the floor by herself then??? Can forgive either dodgy service or disappointing food but not both.
Waited 5 minutes, no service, seated ourselves. Waited another 15 minutes, no service, got our own menus. Waited another 15 minutes, no service, walked up to counter to place our own order. Waited another 30 minutes for a meals that had: watery/burnt hash brown, bacon with a reservoir of oil (about 2 tbsps) sitting on top, a cold sausage and what appeared to be yesterday’s (soggy and chewy) toast. Have been to HQ a few times with this experience (yes, we are idiots for going back and we will not make the mistake again). To top it off, waitress asked how our meals were; when we gave her our honest opinions in a gentle manner, she disregarded this entirely. Hence I'll put my opinion on a website instead. The three waitresses we had were all dripping with attitude and not a single smile among the lot!
In mitigation of all this, it is a nice place to sit and at least we had the newspaper.
In short: you can get much better food, much faster, for the same $$, with friendlier service at numerous other places in the neighbourhood.
I have a mixed view of Headquarters, I went there for lunch two weeks ago and had the most wonderful experience. The serving staff are always very polite, the service is really quick despite the place being full every time I have been there.
The lamb salad I had for lunch was beyond divine, it was quite easily the best lamb salad I have ever tasted. And they are famous for their risotto, which quite a few of my colleagues had and were delighted with.
However their breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Being so impressed with their lunches, I thought it would be a surefire bet for breakfast, only to find that they seemed to be missing a chef for this important meal of the day.
I ordered plain old poached eggs on toast, they arrived cold and obviously cooked in vinegar, with toast that was just bread, not toasted at all, and to top it off, not even buttered!
How do you fail with poached eggs on toast?
I was with a group of 10 and everyone was jointly unhappy with their eggs, eggs cooked in vinegar, taste of vinegar, its really bad cooking practice.
Plus their giant homemade hash browns, may look good, but they don't taste that great and they take up the majority of the plate, who really wants to eat the equivalent of 3 large potatoes for breakfast?
Need more of a focus on quality rather than quantity.
But in saying that, again their staff were suberb and the coffee is always excellent. Maybe their chef was missing that day, I will certainly go back and try again.
The best breakfast in Auckland.If the menu has not change sense June 1988 it means something. Every time I get to Auckland I stop at Headquarters Restaurant. Thanks to all of you that have keep the tradition and the standard !!!
