The decor at Ponsonby's spin on Belgian drinking culture is lighter and airier than the other Belgian Beer Cafes around town. Rather than Belgium it actually feels more like somewhere in France or Italy. Technically you might be in Ponsonby, but it is located right at the start of Jervois Rd.

Dida's Wine and Tapas Lounge
(Mediterranean, Spanish, Tapas)
Nowhere else along Jervois Rd sums up this inner suburb so well with a mix of middle-aged and moneyed media types, and an array of fledgling up-and-comers on Auckland's ladder of success. The decor is deliciously relaxed with leather sofas, large wooden tables and a cosy open fire.

Elbow Room Herne Bay
A Friday night here is like a bar in Barcelona, or maybe a back street bar of Lisbon. The Elbow Room's formerly raucous face has been remodelled by the team from the Gypsy Tea Room. Except a coolly sophisticated vibe that may have you thinking you're in Spain or Portugal.
