The ViewAuckland Review
Waiheke was in for it.
In fact, with a 25-strong stag party and one hapless, superman-kitted stag all in fine form, no drinking establishment was safe.
And Harbour Masters Bar and Restaurant on Waiheke Island had been chosen as the last stop on a fairly hectic itinerary.
Just a quick dash from the ferry (as tested by a few of our party), Harbour Masters is a large, relaxed affair with great indoor/outdoor flow.
There are a few pool tables in the bar area, but on a warm summer Waiheke night it’s the generous outdoor space that attracts the punters.
The beverages list boasts a good variety of choices and more than a few local wines—including Saratoga Estate Rose, $7.00 a glass—were on offer both by the glass and the bottle.
Steinlager, Macs and Speights are on tap, with a further five or six imported bottled options also available.
Without doubt, Harbour Masters Bar and Restaurant benefits from its proximity to the Fullers Ferry, and the makeup of its visitors this particular day was testament to this.
According to the efficient barman Waiheke residents do visit, but for the most part the crowd is made up of visitors to the island looking for a quick pre- or post-trip drink.
Completely understandable, really; although Waiheke’s economy is growing, the island has maintained a laidback swagger, and Harbour Masters Bar and Restaurant makes the perfect first and last impression of this relaxing attitude.
