Hadn't been to hallertau in years but took a visiting German friend there last Sunday after spending the day cruising around the west coast and absolutely stoked to see the changes made to this bar restaurant. Great setting that was full on this visit ( including a car park full of corvettes ) with groups, families and the works.
Beer is great and awesome to see the brewing process- hallertau is definitely a must visit for a casual pint if you're in the area. As for the food- quality gastropub menu - I had the lamb pie which was top draw!
Go and pay it a visit- well worth the drive

I have been here twice and have enjoyed the food both times. The platters here are the best I have had. The place itself is nice and staff are helpful, but did find the wait time really really long on the All You Can Eat Mussels night, maybe there were a lot of people having the mussels? But the waitress kept coming and telling us that the mussels would be out 'any minute', we were still waiting 30+ mins later and think we may have been forgotten as we had to ask twice how long they would be. In saying that, I would go back as the food was great and the first time I ate here the wait time was very reasonable.

Love this place. Was introduced to Hallertau a few years back through a mate and it's become a bit of a regular. Particularly like their Statesman Pale Ale - nice drop that goes down well especially in the winter months.
The feeds on offer at Hallertau are pretty good also - on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon there's noting better than rocking up midday, enjoying a few pints and getting amongst the chicken club sandwich...delicious much!

I agree with the people who haven't enjoyed the service at Hallertau. It's a shame because it is a cool place to hang out for a few beers and some nice food on the weekend, but the staff make you feel like they don't really care if you are there or not! Most of them seem quite young, and are very inflexible when it comes to answering questions, changing seats/menu items and basically just do their job by the book.
We went there recently to try a beer that a friend of a friend had created. It was really good and we had some nice snack type foods to go with it. The children also enjoyed the kids meals.

We use to stop off for a beer and chips after a weekend MTB ride (early doors). Not so much now that other pubs have landed nearby (in Riverhead). The reason, the bar staff were not particularly friendly, the beer/food was not served before 11:00 and the 20% surcharge/holiday tax for beer over stat days all contributed to me (and others in the group) feeling that they didn't really want our custom.

Hallertau makes a good steak and has a decent stocked bar. The outdoor verandah area is also a good place to enjoy a few quiet ones in the afternoon.

Rude & unprofessional bar staff, over priced beer, average food for above average prices, long wait to pay our bill - will not be returning in a hurry

On a rainy chilly winter Saturday afternoon Hallertau was the perfect beacon, after we'd found no suitable cafe from Helensville through to Kumeu.

The staff were welcoming, friendly and the place was buzzing. Groups of families, friends and couples all seemed to be enjoying themselves. The service was personal and the food not to fussy though delish.

They do the most yummy perry (pear cider) and if it wasn't for the fact I was driving I'd have indulged in more than the one glass!

Highly recommend as an out of town weekend lunch destination - great atmosphere, food and drinks.

My husband and i have had dinner at Hallertau Restaurant & Brewery two or three times now. The staff are friendly (if a little haphazard when they are busy). The food is very good, without being astonishing, the beer and wine range is excellent, the beer matching to meals is great, and they are child-friendly.

Lovely ambience. We'll be going back, both for dinners, and for relaxed afternoon beer sampling.

I took my Japanese guest there for lunch and to try the beer and wine. I also had my two year old with me. The waitress was one of the friendliest I have had for a while. She was extra patient and helpful with my child. There was a toy box and colouring-in, and even a playground - although not shaded from the sun or fenced and quite a way from where you ate ... and between two driveways (a bit dangerous).

My Japanese guest found it very pleasant. The decor was very nice and modern, recently renovated. I can't wait to go and try it for dinner.
