Our group of 6 meet for a beer and early sunday dinner.

Most of us ordered the lamb roast $20 expecting a hearty meal but the portion sizes were tiny even for the ladies. The lamb was alittle tough and could have done with another slice, but it was the lack of veges that let it down a few cubes of potato carrot etc just plain mean !!
One steak dinner looked ok but again small for money.

Friendly staff and a good selection of beer and would visit for a pint again but would NOT bother with the food.

Not the best service with our group not being given table service until we asked. A little hard for 14 people to go to the bar to order individually and expect our meals to come out at the same time.

My bangers and mash was good, the potato smooth. The Fish and chips was good value for money with a huge accompanying salad.

The Managers Special – casserole – too fruity and sweet and unfinished. The pies ok too.

There are lots of great bars around that do better food so I won't go back to this old dated pub.

We had a work dinner at Galbraith's Alehouse last night. Most of us opted for the Apple Tree cider - a yummy apple and elderflower cider, expensive though at $15 a pop! The meals were surprisingly good for a pub though took a while to come out. The broadnose fish with chickpea and haloumi salad and the vege stack were the highlights at out table. The pork belly was well cooked but under seasoned and the risotto was not well matched with the dish. Galbraith's fish and chips were good as were the bowls of wedges a nice snack.

Galbraith's Alehouse is a fantastic place to go for a variety of proper ales. Spent Sunday lunch there good food and a good deal for $20 but food took an awfully long time to arrive, nearly an hour,no warning about the wait. But gave my wife and i time to sample all the great beer they brew here themselves. Loved everyone our favourites are definetly the best bitter and Eb. The monks ale is So worth a try aswell but after dinner is best. We will be returning to Galbraith's Alehouse but maybe ask how long food will take.

The best Pub in the Southern hemisphere, as confirmed by the many overseas visitors I have taken here.
Food not always the greatest, but the beers are outstanding Keith Galbraith's dedication to quality is unparalleled.

Galbraith's Alehouse is a great English style pub that has that heritage building quality (it used to be the Grafton Library). The great thing is that they brew their own selection of beers of which I can recommend the Bohemian lager if you're into a pilsner. There's a small courtyard out the back with a fireplace which can be a nice spot to huddle with a cheeky pint on a Sunday afternoon in winter. Otherwise inside is pretty cosy with wood panelling and kauri tables and chairs. Also this pub's family friendly so you can take the kids for Sunday lunch too. If Galbraith's served their beer in a real pint glass I'd give them five stars...

Great pub, excellent food. Has english character and unusual beers to choose from which is great for a change from the norm!
