Fukuko Information

Fukuko – ‘Lucky Child’ – is a Japanese-inspired shochu and snack bar located in Britomart's historic Union Fish Company Building. Shochu is a Japanese spirit that lends itself to vividly-flavoured infusions, and this tiny, characterful bar specialises in stunning shochu cocktails. Fukuko also offers an extensive list of sakes and Japanese whiskies, plus Kirin on tap, served with small plates from the kitchen, artfully blending New Zealand and Japanese food styles.

Had read your review for Fukuko and thought you were spot on. Since opening I've probably been going at least twice a month and I especially like taking out of towners there as Fukuko is quite different from the other bars in the downtown area.The shochui cocktails do have a kick - try the Woo hoo - pretty damn fine!

The cocktails were talked up - so we had to check it out. Girls xmas lunch. The whole experience was a total let down. The tide was out on the cocktails, and the earl gray martini tasted like a alcoholic orange fruju. We turned to good old trusty Daniel le Brun in a bottle. Sensational. Perfectly chilled. That was the highlight. We ordered several tapa's each. Not bad, but certainly not enough. We left hungry, and several hundred dollars lighter. The waitress managed to pour sour sauce down one of the girls legs, into her new suede shoes and into her hand bag - which now smells of soya sauce, not gorgeous lovely leather. There were a lot of sorrys, but no discount or recognition. The bill was huge and we left hungry and slightly smelly. We won't be back. The stools are awkard and uncomfortable. Its not a dining experience. Could be good place for a glass of stand up Daniel le Brun after work if Tyler St is too busy.
