Freeman and Grey is one of my go-to spots when I'm in Ponsonby. During the week I go to the pub quizzes and enjoy the $4 pizza. On the weekend they play great music and they leafy decor makes for a cool atmosphere.

Last night, my partner and I dined it at Freeman and Grey, and noted a few things.During summer, it is best to book a table and not turn up expecting to be seated outside. We ordered a couple of tapas dishes each (pork belly and dumplings) and a platter (the $55 one - I cannot recall the name of it) along with a Bloody Mary, a wine and 2 beers. The tapas were average. Nothing to write home about and I found that the Pork Belly was not the melt-in-your-mouth kind, but the old fashioned chewy kind, which caused this cheap cut to remain at the bottom of the diners pick-list years ago.Unfortunately, I was not able to purchase a Bloody Mary because they had run out of Tomato Juice. This is disappointing as directly across the road from the restaurant is a Dairy and 800m down the road, is a Supermarket. Either of which would have stocked tomato juice and I would have been happy to wait for it, had one of the staff 'gone the extra mile. The saving grace of this eatery was the platter however - huge and good quality and value for money - highly recommended. The interior is exposed brick and beams, a lot of which we are seeing these days. The location is in the heart of Ponsonby, so there is some decent people-watching.There are 4 women's toilets, which were all clean and well stocked. In a nutshell, the experience was a bit lacklustre and I would be hard pressed to give Freeman and Grey another go hoping that it improved.

Great new place on Pons Road. Had bought a grab one voucher for $40 which allowed for $100 of food and drink.

Two of us went and ordered from the snack menu which is all very interesting and varied. We shared meatballs, bruschetta, chicken skewers and some fries. Plenty of food and when added with 6 beers that was about our $100.

Food was good, staff were good and even without the voucher would say this place is good value for money.

Thur night had an acoustic session followed by chilled DJ set.

Welcomed addition to the street!

sweet spot on a hot Auckland afternoon for sure. Pints are really well priced - I was getting rounds in for 4 and I think it was just over $34 bucks (macs) - so pretty good I thought.
Freeman and Grey is perfect for a catchup with the boys - not sure what its like at night but keen to check it out.

The boys and I hit it pretty hard yesterday arvo at freeman and grey- good set up with sport on the TVs (rarity in ponsonby) and well priced macs on tap. Food is ok too without being outstanding.
Definitely pay a return visit to freeman and grey over the summer.
