I can't get past three stars for Franc's, but I'm not sure why. The coffee is good and they do takeaway, which is really convenient if you're at the beach. The $10 hotdogs for lunch are delicious, and the skateboard platter fun for work drinks. However the drinks are expensive, and although it is in a stunning location the vibe just doesn't seem to live up to the expectation. Would like to try breakfast one day.

Had high hopes for Franc's as it's on my doorstep and has got an enviable position but unfortunately could only think, what might have been. Drinks/beer selection boring and unfortunately the food menu isn't much better - I wasn't after anything extravagant but some good pub grub could have been the go - I had the lamb burger which was pretty ordinary and the chicken wings were nowhere near as good as Sal's (just around the corner) and pretty much double the price.
The upshot is the setting and for that reason will probably return to Franc's - here's hoping for better luck next time.

I've now visited Franc's twice since opening last year and although service on my first visit was pretty slack to be honest, on this most recent visit really pleased to see it lift its game. The setting is awesome and certainly a key part as to why it's so busy especially over summer. The food is also pretty good fare - I had the buttermilk waffles with rasberries and lemon curd - now that's a brunch worth waiting all week for! Gift Franc's a go - still newly opened but pleased to see some of the teething issues have been ironed out. cheers

If I could choose no stars for this place, I would. Visited a few days ago for brunch and we were given breakfast and lunch menus but when we ordered we were told that we could only order off the breakfast menu so some of us then had to re-study the menus to choose something else. We were told that we couldn't order juices or smoothies because they had run out of supplies. We were then told that we couldn't order coffees because there was a backlog of coffee orders and they had to catch up, although we were actually able to order coffees shortly after this. The food was extremely disappointing and definitely not worth the money. We ordered waffles with raspberries and got one very thin, very soggy waffle cut into four pieces with no raspberries. The beans had a large piece of bacon bone in them which could have broken a tooth. I noticed that one of the people at the table next to us was half way through their meal and the others at the table didn't have any meals. They got their meals much later. One of our meals was forgotten too, as they said it was being made and would be brought out as soon as possible after the other meals were delivered to our table. The staff didn't bother to enquire if our meals were ok and we left still hungry. Will definitely not be returning.

Really disappointing.
I was stoked to find out that there were new bars and restaurants opening on Takapuna's waterfront and couldn't wait to try out Franc's. I went in for lunch and drinks at 1.30pm on Tuesday and couldn't be more disappointed. I walked up to the bar and went to order a light lunch when I was told they weren't serving food. Pretty odd considering it was lunch time, but I was told it was due to the lunchtime rush. Again, odd since the place was only half full and it has been overflowing with people the past two days so you would have expected them to be prepared for the rush. I asked if they had any snacks available and was told no, that we would have to wait for an hour before ordering food of any kind. I then decided to order one of the smoothies, but no, after a confused look from two of the waitresses was told that they didn't have a smoothie machine... Why put smoothies on your menu if you can't make them?!
Third time lucky, I ended up with a cider ($10.50) and ordered a chicken toastie an hour later. The taste was fine, but it was definitely not a toastie. It was effectively a bruschetta style piece of toast with chicken on top.
Disinterested staff, terrible service and average food. Clearly they are relying solely on the location to bring in the customers.
