Caught up with some friends over dinner at Cassette Number Nine on Vulcan Lane on a Tuesday night.

First impressions, the place consists of a mish mash of decor. Don't really know how to describe it. We were given a booth that was very roomy for the four of us and very comfortable. Atmosphere was relaxed and music wasn't too loud so that we had to shout to hold a conversation. It was actually just nice.

Service was a little.. absent.. I get the feeling that people here are pretty laid back, so don't expect someone greeting you as you come in or anything. The staff are friendly and helpful enough when you're able to flag them down. They did make the effort to answer questions which were asked.

Food was alright. It wasn't the best I've tasted but it wasn't bad. We had tomato & parmesan pizza bread and dough balls for entree. Both were pretty good. Their risottos were cooked well, but nothing spectacular. Was quite happy with my Salsiccia e Cipolla (spicy italian pork) pizza. I'd stick to their pizza items.

Overall impression?
You have to be a little patient with table service around here. I found the place to be comfortable. Maybe not for dinner but drinks with friends, and if I'm peckish.. their pizzas.

PS: The atmosphere does get more lively and loud as the night progresses.

A friend and I went to the Vintage market at Cassette Number Nine on Saturday. A very cool venue for a market on a cold and wet day. We enjoyed browsing the stalls whilst drinking generous glasses of red wine. The bar staff were really friendly, the surrounds cool and overall, I had a most enjoyable experience at Cassette.

YOU CAN GET DRINKS IN TEACUPS! The best idea ever, Cassette Number Nine. Vulcan lane is better for it.

The service was great but the pizza was average. The decor is funky and it is a very relaxed environment where I could definitely enjoy a few drinks after work but probably wouldn't order any food.

Cassette Number Nine is a cool spot downtown. Ended up there last night after a fair few after work drinks - the teapots are the go.
Been to cassette a few times now and havent been disappointed - the markets are also good too.

Funky layout and decorations make this a cool place for a drink. The alcohol-filled teapots are a nice touch. The place does get a bit crowded on Wednesday and Thursday nights with a particularly pretentious crowd. It can be a little intimidating to just sit back and relax with a drink. The bar staff are equally as pretentious. Sometimes it feels like a fashion show more than a bar. Apart from that point on the busy nights the atmosphere is nice and live music intimate.
