Bubble isn't shaped like a bubble as you might expect. In fact, it's pretty angular, tucked away in the corner of Viaduct just down from Soul.

Rather, it gets its name from the drink of preference—this is a champagne bar.

Champers, champagne cocktails and cocktails proper are the go here. The back wall of the bar is chocker with the curvy, gold-foiled bottles, and it’s this stuff that you'll see most people drinking … be prepared to part with the best part of a hundred bucks if you're buying a round.

Music seems to be mostly loungey house, and there's a nice booth seating spot at the back where you can cosy up in rosy, padded-wall surroundings. One wall is covered in a chintzy curtain, but the rest of the décor is stylish, curvy and a bit retro—the coolest detail being the floating donut alcove melted into the ceiling.

There's not a whole lot of seating—and much of it is outside under heat lamps. When we visit at 1am on a Thursday night all the seats are taken... so we curl ourselves into Bubble's curvy bar and act decadent.

Champagne here is around $22 a glass ($15 for Methode) or from $110 a bottle. There's a good spread, too. Champers cocktails are around $22; Bubble Bellinis (raspberry, mango) do well, as does Violet Skyy (vodka, champagne, violet syrup and flowers).

Cocktails start at $16; we go a Crunchie each (butterscotch schnapps, creme de cacao and, yes, Crunchie bar).

With its compact size, cool curviness and warm lighting, Bubble Champagne and Cocktail Bar is a good private functions venue. Good for an in-style blow-out.
