The ViewAuckland Review
Think traditional Kiwi barbecue meets rural English garden party with astro turf, a petanque court and even a mini putting-green. The cruisy afternoon vibe gets increasingly raucous after sundown.
Laid back, but bordering on a tad slack, with a slightly too long wait for drinks on a not-so-busy Saturday afternoon. Still a cool concept to have wait staff dressed in preppy sports gear.
Interesting cocktails and variations on sangria and iced tea with most available in pitchers - perfect for larger groups or longer nights. Alternating with fresh fruit juices will make the night last even longer. Devonshire Tea from noon to 4pm everyday reinforces the garden party ambience.
What’s On Tap?
Heineken and Tiger with a good smattering of bottled Kiwi and overseas brews.
Top notch gourmet pizzas – try the pork belly, chilli and pineapple one – and weekend barbecues with tasty and good value meat and seafood skewers.
The Bottom Line
Britomart Country Club is a very cool space with innovative drinks and well-priced bar food, but the wait staff could do with the occasional hurry-up.
A Reason To Return
Big screens aplenty for the inevitable transition for the Britomart area to become an alternative ‘Party Central’ for Rugby World Cup. It is a Heineken bar after all. Before then, Sunday night movies at 8pm sound like a pretty good reason to head back.
