Hidden location so very easy to miss, but if you head up or down Durham Lane, you can't miss it as it's always busy during peak hours (after work). Recommend the wedges! Jamaican Chicken Wrap is also a good option :)
I had a combined 30th birthday party with my twin at the Bluestone Room upstairs function room.
The whole experience, including the planning stages, the very helpful & friendly staff on the day of event, the food platters and the overall atmosphere; it was all perfect! We had a great time.
We have always loved the amazing atmosphere in the Bluestone Room and the function room was no different. All in all it's one of my favourite places! :)
The Bluestone Room used to be my local watering hole until my employers moved into Britomart earlier in the year but I found myself back there last week for a quiet afternoon pint.
Staff haven't changed - still fantastically friendly and the setting relaxed and without the toss-value.
Monteiths on tap so that's also another part of the appeal of the Bluestone Room. Recommended
We visited Bluestone Room for the first time after reading a review on stuff.co.nz that listed this bar as the number one Happiest Bar in CBD. Reviewer was correct, staff were friendly and relaxed and they have excellent happy hour prices ($6 pints) if you work in town the Bluestone Room is a busy place to have an after-work drink with a pretty vast menu. Nice old heritage building with big fire place, perfect for drinks on a winter night.
one of the few places I know of in downtown Auckland that has a regular darts night like every good pub should. Bluestone room is great for that - a few quiet pots and a laugh.
Monteiths Beers on tap (of which I'm a fan) and always a roaring fire heating things up - reason enough to pay Bluestone a visit I think!
I used to come here a lot or more than I would go to other bars. On the night of birthday we went there around 11. It was a Friday or Saturday if i recall right. We i asked for a drink the manager refused me and my 3 friends as they were closing when it was clear people were still drinking. He had a really bad attitude and was rude. So we will not be going here again. I prefer monteiths beer over macs so this was a shame. When he loses his job and customer service improves I'll think about going back.
I have been going to the BlueStone Room on and off ever since it opened. It's in a great location and I like the atmosphere. I have seen it change a lot over the years and I have spent many thousands of dollars here.
Recently they have changed their policy around setting up a Tab for drinks and I used to take clients there regularly. I WON'T be taking clients there anymore, as the simple process of setting up a tab requires a pre-authorisation on your card of $100.00 and a painful process when finalising the bill. I can walk into any other bar in Auckland and hand over my credit card, and get a tab card back. What happened to making it easy and when did customer service go out the window.
The responsiveness of the staff has got worse over the last year too. You can stand at the bar, right in front of one of the staff and they go off and finish some kind of admin task before serving you. They seem to have forgotten that they have customers to look after.
If you are happy to pay for your drinks as you go, The BlueStone room will serve you when they get around to it. If you want to set up a tab, I suggest you go somewhere else.
Good luck...
One of my favourite bars in downtown Auckland and judging by the other reviews on this page, the Bluestone Room is really popular with a whole bunch of other aucklanders. The Bluestone Room is dark and gloomy (something that wont appeal to everyone), but the bar staff always have a smile on their dial and they have a good range of wine available by the glass. Well worth the visit downtown to check out one of Auckland's oldest drinking spots.
