I have been going to the BlueStone Room on and off ever since it opened. It's in a great location and I like the atmosphere. I have seen it change a lot over the years and I have spent many thousands of dollars here.
Recently they have changed their policy around setting up a Tab for drinks and I used to take clients there regularly. I WON'T be taking clients there anymore, as the simple process of setting up a tab requires a pre-authorisation on your card of $100.00 and a painful process when finalising the bill. I can walk into any other bar in Auckland and hand over my credit card, and get a tab card back. What happened to making it easy and when did customer service go out the window.
The responsiveness of the staff has got worse over the last year too. You can stand at the bar, right in front of one of the staff and they go off and finish some kind of admin task before serving you. They seem to have forgotten that they have customers to look after.
If you are happy to pay for your drinks as you go, The BlueStone room will serve you when they get around to it. If you want to set up a tab, I suggest you go somewhere else.
Good luck...
One of my favourite bars in downtown Auckland and judging by the other reviews on this page, the Bluestone Room is really popular with a whole bunch of other aucklanders. The Bluestone Room is dark and gloomy (something that wont appeal to everyone), but the bar staff always have a smile on their dial and they have a good range of wine available by the glass. Well worth the visit downtown to check out one of Auckland's oldest drinking spots.
I have been going to the Bluestone Room once a month since I discovered its existance in February 2011.
The food, the service and the atmosphere is absolutely 10/10! Its so nice to feel and to be treated like one of the locals. The food is excellent and the bar staff are amazing.
Thank you Bluestone Room for making my week long courses more bearable!
Have been here many nights for after work drinks. Great happy hour prices as $4 for a glass of wine, great atmosphere and you can book tables so you have plenty of space and can sit in comfort
Managed to get free tickets to the script concert here one night. Id never heard of bluestone and was too clued up on the band either. I was really impressed when i walked into the pub, the massive stone walls and wooden floors showed good early signs for a good night. Thought the band was awesome and have since become a huge fan. I havent been back to bluestone yet but absolutely plan to- its an awesome venue and a great size for a function.
As an Expat Scot, this is one of the few Bars I have found in Auckland that remind me of home.
Great Ambience, friendly, historical and cosy. There is plenty of wood and great lighting.
All these ingredients make a great pub.
There is very little of the pretentious and "trendy" vibe that so many other Auckland bars try to sell you.
A+
We hired the upstairs room for a Corporate event and meal and it was brilliant, the food supplied was delicious, the staff were funny and helpful, it was one of the best venues that I have been to for this kind of event in the city.
Highly recommend.
Unfortunately I have had a bad experience at the Bluestone Room. I have to say this is a first as usually I enjoy this particular bar/pub.
The boyfriend and I ordered lunch from the pleasant enough waitress. Forty minutes later our food arrived (not good considering the place was pretty much empty at the time). She then proceeded to tell me my food (I ordered a BLAT) had no avacado as they had run out. She asked me if I wanted egg instead, so I agreed on a boiled egg. Twenty five minutes later with my food cold and and my temper hot she sneaks the egg around the back of our table and actually stands there waiting for a thank you. When I didn't reply to her or even acknowledge her presence (why should I after 25 minutes! )
Her sarcastic "it was a pleasure" sent my temper through the roof and her actually telling me that "a boiled egg does take 8 minutes y'know" answer did not help me keep it cool I tell you. All I was after was a "sorry to keep you waiting, how about a free drink" or something similar. She then came back for round two, asking my boyfriend (sarcastically and for my benefit) if he enjoyed his meal. He mumbled something as he was so shocked by her treatment. She proclaimed his answer to be "excellent!!"
We then got the manager who, after we told him what had happened and how we were treated, apologised and gave us both our lunches and drinks for free. I must say, after being so irate over his silly waitress, he really stepped up to the mark and proved himself with his approach. I guess you get good eggs and bad eggs everywhere ...
