Came back to this bar with some work mates for farewell drinks after an awesome Christmas party last year. We don't often get into the city so didn't want to pass up another opportunity. We had our own little area, staff were friendly and chatty ,canapes were fantastic as was the free flow of wine!

Hidden location so very easy to miss, but if you head up or down Durham Lane, you can't miss it as it's always busy during peak hours (after work). Recommend the wedges! Jamaican Chicken Wrap is also a good option :)

I had a combined 30th birthday party with my twin at the Bluestone Room upstairs function room.
The whole experience, including the planning stages, the very helpful & friendly staff on the day of event, the food platters and the overall atmosphere; it was all perfect! We had a great time.
We have always loved the amazing atmosphere in the Bluestone Room and the function room was no different. All in all it's one of my favourite places! :)

The Bluestone Room used to be my local watering hole until my employers moved into Britomart earlier in the year but I found myself back there last week for a quiet afternoon pint.
Staff haven't changed - still fantastically friendly and the setting relaxed and without the toss-value.
Monteiths on tap so that's also another part of the appeal of the Bluestone Room. Recommended

We visited Bluestone Room for the first time after reading a review on stuff.co.nz that listed this bar as the number one Happiest Bar in CBD. Reviewer was correct, staff were friendly and relaxed and they have excellent happy hour prices ($6 pints) if you work in town the Bluestone Room is a busy place to have an after-work drink with a pretty vast menu. Nice old heritage building with big fire place, perfect for drinks on a winter night.

one of the few places I know of in downtown Auckland that has a regular darts night like every good pub should. Bluestone room is great for that - a few quiet pots and a laugh.
Monteiths Beers on tap (of which I'm a fan) and always a roaring fire heating things up - reason enough to pay Bluestone a visit I think!

I used to come here a lot or more than I would go to other bars. On the night of birthday we went there around 11. It was a Friday or Saturday if i recall right. We i asked for a drink the manager refused me and my 3 friends as they were closing when it was clear people were still drinking. He had a really bad attitude and was rude. So we will not be going here again. I prefer monteiths beer over macs so this was a shame. When he loses his job and customer service improves I'll think about going back.

I have been going to the BlueStone Room on and off ever since it opened. It's in a great location and I like the atmosphere. I have seen it change a lot over the years and I have spent many thousands of dollars here.

Recently they have changed their policy around setting up a Tab for drinks and I used to take clients there regularly. I WON'T be taking clients there anymore, as the simple process of setting up a tab requires a pre-authorisation on your card of $100.00 and a painful process when finalising the bill. I can walk into any other bar in Auckland and hand over my credit card, and get a tab card back. What happened to making it easy and when did customer service go out the window.

The responsiveness of the staff has got worse over the last year too. You can stand at the bar, right in front of one of the staff and they go off and finish some kind of admin task before serving you. They seem to have forgotten that they have customers to look after.

If you are happy to pay for your drinks as you go, The BlueStone room will serve you when they get around to it. If you want to set up a tab, I suggest you go somewhere else.

Good luck...

One of my favourite bars in downtown Auckland and judging by the other reviews on this page, the Bluestone Room is really popular with a whole bunch of other aucklanders. The Bluestone Room is dark and gloomy (something that wont appeal to everyone), but the bar staff always have a smile on their dial and they have a good range of wine available by the glass. Well worth the visit downtown to check out one of Auckland's oldest drinking spots.

I have been going to the Bluestone Room once a month since I discovered its existance in February 2011.

The food, the service and the atmosphere is absolutely 10/10! Its so nice to feel and to be treated like one of the locals. The food is excellent and the bar staff are amazing.

Thank you Bluestone Room for making my week long courses more bearable!

Managed to get free tickets to the script concert here one night. Id never heard of bluestone and was too clued up on the band either. I was really impressed when i walked into the pub, the massive stone walls and wooden floors showed good early signs for a good night. Thought the band was awesome and have since become a huge fan. I havent been back to bluestone yet but absolutely plan to- its an awesome venue and a great size for a function.

As an Expat Scot, this is one of the few Bars I have found in Auckland that remind me of home.

Great Ambience, friendly, historical and cosy. There is plenty of wood and great lighting.

All these ingredients make a great pub.

There is very little of the pretentious and "trendy" vibe that so many other Auckland bars try to sell you.

A+

We hired the upstairs room for a Corporate event and meal and it was brilliant, the food supplied was delicious, the staff were funny and helpful, it was one of the best venues that I have been to for this kind of event in the city.
Highly recommend.

Unfortunately I have had a bad experience at the Bluestone Room. I have to say this is a first as usually I enjoy this particular bar/pub.
The boyfriend and I ordered lunch from the pleasant enough waitress. Forty minutes later our food arrived (not good considering the place was pretty much empty at the time). She then proceeded to tell me my food (I ordered a BLAT) had no avacado as they had run out. She asked me if I wanted egg instead, so I agreed on a boiled egg. Twenty five minutes later with my food cold and and my temper hot she sneaks the egg around the back of our table and actually stands there waiting for a thank you. When I didn't reply to her or even acknowledge her presence (why should I after 25 minutes! )
Her sarcastic "it was a pleasure" sent my temper through the roof and her actually telling me that "a boiled egg does take 8 minutes y'know" answer did not help me keep it cool I tell you. All I was after was a "sorry to keep you waiting, how about a free drink" or something similar. She then came back for round two, asking my boyfriend (sarcastically and for my benefit) if he enjoyed his meal. He mumbled something as he was so shocked by her treatment. She proclaimed his answer to be "excellent!!"
We then got the manager who, after we told him what had happened and how we were treated, apologised and gave us both our lunches and drinks for free. I must say, after being so irate over his silly waitress, he really stepped up to the mark and proved himself with his approach. I guess you get good eggs and bad eggs everywhere ...

We have been to the Bluestone Room on several occasions, and at each time we have come away very satisfied. Each of the dishes we have had are of a generous size and very delicious. On our most recent visit the staff were very helpful, friendly and accomodating to our requests! Great job by all at the Bluestone Room.

My partner and I had a quick meal at the Bluestone Room after work last night. I opted for the lamb on kumara mash which was cooked perfectly. My partner had the beef and mushroom pie which unfortunately left her a little disappointed.

I had no complaints however - good friendly staff, Monteith's on tap and a live jazz band in the background - nice work!

Organised a get-together of old workmates in the upstairs bar at Bluestone Room. Had the room to ourselves. The service was fantastic. Very friendly, helpful staff. Organised platters of food and there was way more than we could eat and great quality. Would thoroughly recommend for a function, corporate event.

Had a good night here the other night. Dropped in to Bluestone Room to catch up with friends after work on a Thursday, and was surprised to find a decent number of people already settled in for a few drinks.

Excellent service all round -- only downside was a platter of nibbles (kumara chips, seafood etc) we purchased, which were a little greasy and nothing to write home about.

Outstanding venue - as stated by the other reviews - a step back in time! Warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Must have been a one off for the sports type bar; I'm a very regular customer (and will remain one for a long time). The usually quiet and cosy ambience during the week makes for a great dining and relaxing experience.
Fridays are the party nights... good times!

Yep, it's an awesome building and the interior's great. But, if you're a sports-free zone and just want to head to the Bluestone for a drink with friends ... forget it!

Turned up last night with a bunch of friends and the TVs were blaring so loud with the cricket that we couldn't hear a bloody thing!

Retreated upstairs so that we could hold a conversation - after about 10 minutes, the barman arrived and told us to go downstairs because "it was quieter down there now". Yeah right (I think it was more becasue they didn't want to have to clear tables in two areas) -- and the ambience downstairs? ... they'd replaced the screaming TVs with a screaming loud drinking song.

I'd expect this on a big drinking night, but when there's only a dozen or so people in the place, surely they can cater to all patrons? We left. We won't bother going back.

This is a great new bar with excellent decor and ambience. Efficient, friendly staff - even when faced with 400 people plus. Great range of wines and Monteiths beer. Entering is like going back in time - to the days of early pioneers. At the same time, maintaining a sophisticated edge. Highly recommended.
