The ViewAuckland Review
4 out of 5
Situated in a two storey villa on the quiet end of Ponsonby Road, Adana can easily be missed—even with its corner location.
Adana, attracting a sprinkling of nearby office workers and casual diners, seemed fairly busy early on a Thursday night.
The regulars that I visited with suggested that on weekends, it's especially busy; particularly popular is the cool back bar that is small, but perfectly chilled out.
The wine list is fantastic and the variety of imported wines is great. We shared a lovely bottle of Castana Domino Spanish red for $37.50—a great choice and a real bargain.
I’m picking the staff are also imported—from somewhere in the Mediterranean. Friendly and professional, they don’t miss a beat.
The décor is well-appointed: it’s neither surprising nor exciting, but it's simple, friendly and it has a fresh feel to it. Upstairs, there are a number of other rooms; perfect for more private celebrations.
There’s also a comfortable dining area that more than deserves to be choc-a-bloc if the mezzes that we ordered were anything to go by. The pizzas are delicious; the platters, varied and generous; and the falafels, homemade.
I'd recommend Adana Mezze Bar to anyone wanting a change from the busy Ponsonby bars. It's bright, it's buzzing and happening—and its food, very tasty.
