Ask The Beer Ambassador - Kurt Gross, Lion Beer
So, a beer ambassador? How did you score that gig?

Kurt Gross

It’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it. Actually it’s been a long time in the making. My background with Lion covers brewing at shed 22 in Wellington, a couple of stints with sales and 2 years as an Ambassador with Mac’s in Australia. Beer is a major part of our business and with the way the market is evolving there was an obvious need to provide an education platform to up skill people within Lion and about beer, how it’s made and how to truly appreciate it. When the role came up I threw my hat into the mix and after a very competitive interview process was fortunate enough to come through.
Any estimates as to how much beer you’ve consumed?

Kurt Gross

In a role like this it’s about being across all the styles out there, it’s not so much about volume. To be honest I’ve been a beer lover for a long time so it’s hard to put a figure on it. There always seems to be a new brew I haven’t tried so there are plenty of great options in NZ which keep me busy learning more about the industry.
Tell us about Willie’s - it’s a drop aimed at the Waikato region but what differentiates it from others on the market?

Kurt Gross

Willie’s Pale Ale is a well-balanced brew combining 5 types of malt to deliver a really refreshing drop for summer, so in my opinion the liquid stacks up and offers those in the region something new specially for them, people in the region continually tell us they want to see more from Willie and this is us listening to them.
And why the name?

Kurt Gross

Willie’s a loved icon in the Waikato region, when bringing innovation to market specific to a region it’s important to ensure you are delivering on what the consumers have been asking for.
