Vibe
From the team that brought Auckland Racket and Agents & Merchants, 1885 again makes great use of one of Britomart’s heritage buildings. Exposed bricks and beams, wooden floors, and a sophisticated ambience. 1885 is across two expansive levels, space that’s definitely needed on busy, busy Friday and Saturday nights.

What's on Tap?
Erdinger, Amstel and Tiger fly the international flag with Monteith’s providing local support. A few Kiwi craft beers – Tuatara, Moa and Emersons – and a quite astounding “Cellar List” of very special wines. Classy cocktails too.

Feeling peckish?
Asian-inspired small plates including wontons and tamarind sauce, salt and pepper squid and Szechuan chicken lollipops.

The Bottom Line
1885 has a great energy and ambience, especially when the jazz, soul, blues and funk musicians kick off on Thursday to Saturday. DJs – including Manuel Bundy and Murray Cammick – in the 1885 basement from 11pm.

The early February launch of the adjacent and alfresco Heineken-themed Britomart Country Club. Roll on Rugby world Cup 2011.
