Waiwera Infinity Thermal Spa Resort
These days, however, rather than sitting in water-filled holes dug out on the beach, as Maori traditionally did, we can visit the Waiwera Infinity Thermal Spa Resort.
Situated on the picturesque bay of Waiwera and surrounded by lush native bush, the resort is currently undergoing a $125 million refurbishment; a revamp that will add private apartments ranging in size from 50 to 240 square metres.
The apartment complex will include studio units, villas, and one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. Apartments on the first level will have in-ground spas and personal infra red saunas, which are believed to be twice as effective as standard saunas.
Resort residents will be able to use the therapeutic pools and wellness centre at discounted rates.
This wellness centre will be open to the public and offer a range of spa treatments including packages for mums-to-be, hens’ days out, mothers and daughters, and one specially tailored for older women.
If you are feeling adventurous (or masochistic) you can even have your fitness levels tested, followed by a personal training session, massage—and other more pleasant treats to help you recover.
The Waiwera complex of 26 pools offers family-friendly facilities such as picnic and BBQ areas, a licensed café, hot pools for kids, a pool with a movie screen, and water slides. Private spas, a sauna, Jacuzzi and steam room are also on site.
