Ti Papa Equestrian Centre

Ti Papa Equestrian Centre

Set in 90 acres of farmland, rolling paddocks surround the manicured gardens of Australasia’s largest indoor arena complete with pristine stable blocks, outdoor warm-up arena, and elegant reception lounge and bar.

This international-standard facility was the vision of successful Auckland businessman, the late Bruce Drinkrow.

Translated as the gift, Ti Papa was Bruce’s parting gift to his equine-loving wife, Greer, and daughter, Kelly Hawkeswood. But the centre has become as much a gift to the equestrian community, as it was to Kelly and Greer.

Since opening in 1998, Ti Papa has become home the World Cup Showjumping Series final, which sees New Zealand’s top riders compete for an entry at the prestigious FEI World Cup show.

The indoor arena, measuring 50m x 70m and with a sand and bark composite floor, hosts an indoor winter showjumping series—a sport usually limited to summer because of slippery winter conditions.

The New Zealand Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) is another beneficiary of Ti Papa’s facilities, where local RDA member groups have free use of the arena for therapy and rehabilitation sessions.

Ti Papa has also gained international attention with former Olympian Bruce Goodin holding his annual showjumping clinics at the facility in 2005.

But the world of horses isn’t all shows, clinics and training, and Ti Papa even caters for “horsy people’s” weddings—where horses, ponies and other pets can be included in the festivities.

Though Ti Papa bills itself as a special events facility, there is no hiding its deep equine-affinity, or the equestrian community’s affinity for Ti Papa.
