Monterey Park
Model World & Vintage Car Museum
Amongst Monterey Park’s attractions, you’ll find a model world, vintage car museum and a miniature railway.
Model World has a dedicated outside area where several of New Zealand’s iconic buildings and villages appear in miniature. Take a walk around the site’s Lake Monterey and wind through a scale model recreation of many of New Zealand’s architecture and landmarks—including Auckland’s Ferry Building.
A 12-inch gauge train runs along the periphery of the Model World complex, which allows visitors to get a free ride around Model World. The train ride is included in your entry ticket to Model World.
The Boat Model Pavilion is a showcase for the attraction’s many boats, ships and navy equipment from around the world. Here you can also rent out your own radio-controlled model boat and set sail on Lake Monterey—which sits at the centre of Model World.
Car enthusiasts can get all revved up at the Vintage Car Museum, where automobiles, motorcycles and other motoring gear are on display.
The museum features more than 50 exhibits—including a 1923 Packard Twin Six (the first of the world’s production cars to have a v12 engine)—restored to their former glory.
A souvenir and model shop provide a spot of retail therapy, while the Family Café offers light refreshments, snacks and panoramic views of Model World’s outside area.
