Using local ingredients coupled with kiwi beer Velvet Burger has helped redefine the Fort St area downtown and is definitely worth a try. The place is even BYO if you book ahead of time so it's the perfect spot to start a night on the town, and the staff are awesome and will have no problem helping you get the party started.

Worth trying: the kumara chutney covered, beetroot soaked lamb creation known as the Homegrown Hero.
