5 Things We Love with Jono Park - November 2011
Discover Auckland's greatest people, places and things this month with View Auckland's man-about-town Jono Park.
TYLER ST GARAGE'S BALCONY
What’s that I see? Sunshine? Could it be that summer is here? If it is, then Auckland’s best rooftop
bar is the place to be. The balcony at Tyler St has been tough to get into over the Rugby World Cup
season but now that’s over, get up there and enjoy the sun. Mojitos and pork buns an essential
accompaniment.
THE VICTORIA PARK TUNNEL
Did you get to walk through? To be fair, you weren’t missing much – you could see both ends pretty
much the whole time and it was almost brighter inside than out. But this is going to be fantastic, and
for everyone who’s hated that left-hand lane change when heading north off the Vic Park flyover,
life is about to become a lot easier.
THE SWEETEST HANGOVER ON GEORGE FM
Nothing soothes the head on a Saturday morning than the cool tunes broadcasting from George
FM. Perfectly pitched between ‘up-and-atom’ and ‘hit snooze one more time’, it’s topped off by the
velvet voice of Aroha Harawira. I think I may be slightly in love.
TEED ST LARDER SMOOTHIES
I know people rave about Teed St Larder… I’m not completely convinced after a few patchy
experiences (and seriously, what’s with the giant highlighter-coloured light shades – clash city!) but
one thing that blew me away was their Rhubarb and Vanilla smoothie. Refreshing, a little tart and a
great change to the usual banana / mixed berry varieties.
MIXT ART + DESIGN
The perfect place for a different present for someone that has everything. I picked up a retro 60s
alarm clock, all off-cream plastic and rotating clockface, for $35! You have to be quick when they get
new stock in as all the really unique stuff disappears almost straight away.
