5 THINGS WE LOVE...
KOKAKO IN THE OLD GREY LYNN POST OFFICE
Absolutely buzzing when I went in on the weekend, Kokako’s new café venture in the old Grey Lynn
Post Office looks and sounds like a roaring success. The coffees are fantastic and the different areas
to sit make it great for a group visit (good luck finding a table though) or solo. They need to hurry up
and open on Sundays though! You can read Brett’s review HERE
THE HIDDEN ESCALATOR BETWEEN FORT AND SHORTLAND STREETS
Too long I’ve been walking the long way round, too long it’s taken forever to get from Fort to
Shortland. Now this hidden gem will shave you extra minutes off your day that you can then spend
drinking coffees at Ben (on Fort St). It’s hard to find – you have to almost walk into the 34 Shortland
St foyer, but a quick hard left will expose its upward/downward majesty.
HOMESTEAD PICTURE FRAMERS
I recently went to a well-known framers in Grey Lynn for a quote on framing a reasonably small
poster and nearly died with shock when they came back with their quote. Desperate for an
alternative, I was recommended Homestead Picture Framers in Henderson by many friends as the
place to go for excellent framing that doesn’t cost more than the art you’re putting in it! It’s a bit out
of the way, but the trip is worth it considering the money you save.
THOSE COLDPLAY RUMOURS...
The rumours have been bubbling under for a few months, but apparently it’s not long now until the
boys will announce the OZ/NZ leg of their Mylo Xyloto tour, rumoured to be Oct / Nov. If it’s true,
we can’t wait! If it’s at Vector, mid-Lower Bowl is a seasoned showgoer’s pic for seats of the house.
THE COUNTER TOP AT HARD LUCK CAFE
If a café counter could be labelled NSFW, this K Rd one would be it. It has to be seen to be believed.
...AND ONE THING WE DON'T
TAXI DRIVERS WHO USE QUEEN STREET
Nothing gets me more depressed than watching a meter tick over whilst stationary… Especially when
it happens at every… single… intersection.
