War Horse
Having been a fan of the book from years ago I was very interested to see this film - but a little worried of how well it would translate into a film .
The good things I felt about the film were the relationship between the boy Albert and his horse Joey, which was well captured. Also, I liked the fact that it did not glorify war or take sides as many war films seem to do. It was about a boy and his horse, and the many faces of humanity. Also in general it was a beautifully shot film.
The things I enjoyed less were the way the people from Devon were portrayed - overly simple and exaggerated. The film had an americanised feel to it, where it could have been better done. Also the training of the horse was very unrealistic. I've trained horses for years, and grew up a few miles from Devon. I've never seen it done that way at all!
Overall I thought the film was a good watch, though a little sappy at times.
Beautifully shot but sometimes a bit twee. The war scenes seemed realistic enough without going the full Private Ryan gory.
How those horses survived 4 years (1914-1918) I'll never know!~
This is the story about a horse that goes to war. Seriously. It's quite engrossing but just a tad bit long. The acting is great!
What a beautiful movie! This films was "realistic" as in everyone doesn't get a happy ending, which may upset some younger children, but also made it a little bit more "real" too. Beautifully shot, it was a very touching movie
Steven Spielberg really likes to change it up doesn't he? This looks like nothing he's made before and I for one can't wait
