I went to the 2D and 3D version and the fight scenes were pretty choice but I felt that the amateur childish acting made me feel like I was watching Hannah Montana or the Disney Channel. This is definately suitable for kids and the older mere males but personally i didn't enjoy it so much.
My 8yo son however rates it a 5star movie and he can't wait for the DVD. A great movie for the kids, not so much for an adult group of friends.
I am a big fan of the cartoon series of Avatar. I watched the entire series for the first time this year and was eagerly awaiting the release of this film to see how it was portrayed.
It was horrible. Do not waste your time or money on this film.
They leave out so much detail, important detail too and don't engage with the characters enough for you to care about them. Their personalities do not come through at all. They are all incredibly serious, the story gaps are made up with rushed narration by Katara which really leaves a lot to be desired. The pronunciation of the names of Aang and Sokka are said in the traditional Asian way which is fine but it's not how we're heard it pronounced in the three seasons of the series which can be frustrating.
It's a terrible movie. I have never wanted to walk out of a movie before this one. Go and see a decent movie like Legend of the Guardians or Despicable Me. Anything but this. Truly.
I personally wanted this movie to be good, but unfortunately it wasn't. I felt as though I was watching the Disney channel except with really good FX.
I think this movie had enough drawstrings on its own and could have afforded to pay for decent child actors. When you pay complete nobodies to play the lead roles in a massive cinematic movie, that's exactly what you get.
I thought the action scenes were awesome and because i actually watched the movie in 2D I found myself thinking how cool it would've looked in 3D.
Unfortunately because i watched the movie in 2D i felt it was relying on the 3D effects to carry it because the acting totally FAILED for me.
I would've been happy to have waited for this one to come out on DVD.
If you have sons who like watching the Disney channel, they'll really enjoy this one.
