A great romp for young and old alike.

The Hobbit is great. It stays faithfully true to the book and fills in some of the gaps with poetic licence.

The new 48fps is breathtaking to behold. At first it takes a bit of getting used to and you may not be able to put your finger on it, but the reason it looks strange is because it looks so real that it's more of a theatrical stage show than a movie. You really do feel like the actors are right there.

The movie itself is paced well and the only slow parts are purposefully slow so you're not sitting there looking at your watch wondering when it's going to wrap up. You'll be so absorbed in the movie that you simply won't have time.

The cast is start studded and perform brilliantly. Even the musical scenes are well done, both light and whimsical to sombre and mood setting.

Seeing old favourites like Gollum is a treat and seeing more of characters back stories fills in some gaps and expands the lore and mythos of Middle Earth

One of the best parts of the movie is how is neatly wraps up at a point where the book simply continues. You're not left with a cliff hanger but rather with a satisfying conclusion to the first part of the adventure.

Whether you're a Tolkien fan or not, you should find a lot to like with this movie.
