I honestly wonder if I am the only person in NZ that really loved Rock of Ages? I watched it twice in one week and after getting out of the second session I said to my friend “I could see that again” and she responded “me too”.

I have not laughed so hard watching a movie for ages. There was another gal in the theatre sitting down the front that was cracking up throughout! It was so funny and entertaining.

Growing up in the 80’s and a proud ‘Westie’ I was a huge fan of bands such as Guns n’ Roses, Poison, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Foreigner, Pat Benatar etc. I was singing along to almost every song in the movie. As soon as I got home I bought the soundtrack and have been listening to it on LOUD every single day since.

The story is predictable and exactly the same as other films from the genre but thoroughly enjoyable. I am seriously thinking of making a list with tick boxes for movies where the main character has a. lost a parent b. cannot perform on stage c. small town gal gets robbed d. small town gal/guy moves to big smoke to pursue their dream. You get the picture?

The stand outs for me were Russell Brand, Alec Baldwin and Catherine Zeta-Jones. They played their parts to absolute perfection and Brand was unbelievably hilarious! Paul Giamatti was priceless as Stacie Jaxx’s revolting, slimy manager.

Also, the dancers at Justice’s club were absolutely incredible. I have so much respect for women that can dance like that. The strength required….amazing!

Tom Cruise’s Jaxx was a crazy meld of 80’s/90’s rockers like Bret Michael’s and Axel Rose. His singing was pretty good.

Go see Rock of Ages if you want a good laugh and sing-along and just want to let your mind go and be entertained.
