Three out of Five stars
Running time: 83 mins

Enjoyable comedy with likeable characters, several witty one-liners and an engaging plot, but you can't help feeling they could have done a lot more with the premise.

What's it all about?
Directed by Gareth Carrivick, Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel stars Chris O'Dowd as science fiction nerd Ray, who loses his job and decides to drown his sorrows in the local pub with his best friends, fellow sci-fi geek Toby (Marc Wooton) and cynical non-believer Pete (Dean Lennox Kelly). At the bar, Ray meets Cassie (Anna Faris), who tells him she's a time traveller who's come to fix a time leak, but Ray assumes she's an actress hired by his mates to cheer him up.

However, when Pete goes to the bathroom, he returns to discover that everyone in the pub has been murdered, including himself! Returning to the correct time, he tries to convince his friends of what he's seen, but their attempts to put things right only end up making everything worse.

The Good
The performances are excellent: the three leads spark off each other nicely, creating likeable characters that we actually care about, while Anna Faris adds a touch of Hollywood glamour as Cassie. In addition, the script has several funny lines and the central premise of a time leak in a pub toilet is both inspired and amusing, particularly when the three characters find themselves having to repeat Pete's toilet ritual in order to make the time leak work.

The Bad
That said, the film's not quite as clever as it thinks it is and you can't help feeling that they could have done so much more with the premise. Similarly, despite a handful of references for sci-fi fans, it's not nearly geeky enough – you fully expect Ray and Toby to fall back on their extensive sci-fi knowledge to save them, but that never happens.

Worth seeing?
Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel is a watchable sci-fi comedy that delivers its fair share of laughs, but it occasionally feels as if it would be more at home as a BBC Three sitcom.
