I am a huge fan of Tim Burton’s work and had been looking forward to watching Dark Shadows.
As always Johnny Depp was fantastic and supported by some equally fabulous women. However, the stand out for me was Eva Green who absolutely SHINES as Angelique Bouchard; the classically scorned woman who takes the ultimate revenge. She was just brilliant all wrapped up in a sexy, evil packaged. For me, this would be up there with the bunny in the pot from Fatal Attraction.
There were quirky bits and Deep played the slightly bemused (with the very changed, new world) and dry Barnabas with gusto.
Nevertheless, I was a bit let down by this movie. It had a pretty strong start, and a believable storyline but it just kind of lost it about three-quarters of the way through. I left the cinema feeling like I had missed something near the end; a riveting finale perhaps?
Ultimately I am glad that I saw it, but I probably could have waited until the DVD release.
I didn't expect much, but even so it still managed to disappoint me...quite a yawn-fest. Maybe the fact that I saw it on an empty stomach didn't help. But the shorts showed all of the best bits, and I thought it could have been much better if they focussed more on the comedy.
Burton and Depp back to brilliance. Amazing shots, cinematography, lighting, costuming and casting. Thematically beautiful, amazing sets and a magically macabre story to boot. Pacing was a bit off towards the end due to trying to cover too much information, and the werewolf could have been left out. But overall weirdly wonderful - as a Burton-Depp collaboration always should be.
to be honest I was a bit disappointed by Dark Shadows, I thought it was overly long and a little dull. not nearly as funny as the shorts made it look.
The film was pure entertainment right from the begin. The visual effects were awesome. Interesting characters and cinematography.
I was so looking forward to this movie, as I am a big fan of Johnny Depp and Tim Burton. The acting was great, the special effects were fantastic, but sadly the storyline just lacked in substance.
