I really liked this movie and am glad I finally got around to seeing it before it closed. I love Maroon 5 and while Adam Levigne's character was not so likeable, what a voice! So the songs might not be much, there is a noticeable lack of chemistry between characters and the storyline may be unlikely, but Mark Ruffalo and Kiera Knightly both play honest and real characters.

Keira Knightley played a gorgeous lead in this cute romantic comedy! She plays singer/songwriter Gretta, who moves to New York with her on-the-verge-of rock stardom musician boyfriend Dave (Maroon 5's Levine). Then is left heart broken by Dave as New York overshadows the quiet and normal life that they left behind in England. She stumbles into an open mic night where she meets Dan (Ruffalo), a music producer whose career has just hit a low point. This is where the story line takes off and without giving to much away Gretta captures Dan's soul as she strums her guitar and sings a sweet melody that start's an amazing idea! Whats surprising is Keira Knightley sings throughout the whole movie! A great lazy sunday afternoon flick!

A film that fails in just about everything it aspires to. This is meant to be a romantic comedy with a musical theme. Could have fooled me!
Clearly, the people who made this hate music. There's not a single song of those specially written for the film that sound like there was any effort involved in writing those. All weak, unmemorable and boring. Take that, music!
Kiera Knightley is not known for her acting. Adding singing to the mix was not the best idea as it also needs a stronger personality to pull off. Mark Ruffalo attempted some acting but unfortunately being alone in trying and also battling a terrible script was too much for him to save the film.
Add to this that it was not too romantic nor funny. Oddly, though the only thing that kept this at least remotely real was the father-daughter relationship. I thought that was a bit moving even.
Anyway, to be left to a DVD night. When you've seen everything else at the rental.
