Thor Dark World Locations Manager Interview
Thor Dark World Locations Manager Interview
On a similar note, was the London underground scene in the script from the start? Were you involved in that scene and was it fun to film? If I was you, I would have demanded to cameo as Woman Next To Thor. Or was that you?

Emma Pill

The underground scene was added as the final battle sequence evolved. We needed an underground station we could control and bring a train into. There were many health and safety issues working underground next to a live track, but the London Underground Film Office were very helpful. We chose Charing Cross as the location for practical reasons. They have an emergency platform separate to the main part of the station that you can have exclusive use of for a day. Even though I was involved in all the planning I was not there on the day. As for having a cameo, I really couldn't go in front of camera. I think I would die of embarrassment!
How close was your involvement with the director/Marvel Studios? Were there any specific restrictions?

Emma Pill

As a head of department you have a large involvement in the planning stages of the film, through to and including the shooting period. This begins by showing the director and producers the locations for consideration, keeping them informed of the progress of securing locations and discussing the requirements of what they would like to achieve on location. Once you have the information of what they want, your role is to set up the location for their needs and make sure it runs smoothly!
Do you have a favourite moment in the film?

Emma Pill

Not really - it's always hard watching a film that you have been very involved with. You watch it in a different way, how the locations look, what locations have been cut, etc. If I had to choose, one of my favourite moments is when the child lifts up the cement mixer in the large warehouse, as I personally think it looks great. It was a real warehouse, with a real cement mixer! The Gherkin scene in the film is a memorable one too, as during the filming at the location I went out on the window cleaning crane on the 36th floor to photograph the location. It was one of the most incredible views of the city!
