2010 Film Releases

2009 was a great year for film as New Zealand audiences flocked to the cinema in droves to see films like Avatar and Sherlock Holmes. But will 2010 be even better? With new films from directors Martin Scorsese, Peter Jackson and Tim Burton, this year looks set to give 2009 a run for its money. Here’s the View Auckland pick of what looks to be the best of the best for 2010 film releases.

The Road

Viggo Mortensen stars as a man trying to keep himself and his son alive in a post-apocalyptic world. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book from Cormac McCarthy.

Up in the Air

George Clooney stars as a management consultant who finds his job threatened. Directed by Jason Reitman.

Precious

Drama based on a novel about troubled New York teenagers.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part One

One of the most anticipated 2010 film releases, this is the first of a two movie finale. In the seventh part of Harry’s story, he… well, you’ve read the book by now, surely?

Shutter Island

Directed by Martin Scorsese, Shutter Island features performances Leonardo DiCaprio, Michelle Williams and more.

Alice in Wonderland

The classic tale gets an update for the 21st-century as a 19-year-old Alice finds herself back in Wonderland, accompanied by Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter.

Iron Man 2

Robert Downey Jr. puts on the iron suit for part two. Also starring Scarlett Johansson.

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time

The video game gets a makeover with Jake Gyllenhaal as the starring prince With Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina and Gemma Arterton.

Sex and the City 2

Carrie and co. return for one of the most anticipated 2010 film releases. Expect men, shoes, shopping and more.

Karate Kid

The son of Will Smith plays the titular kid in this remake.

Little Fockers

The Focker family are back - and this time they're having a baby.

The A Team

Bringing the famous TV show from the '80s to 2010, The A Team is due in July.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and the rest of the cast return for part three of the vampire saga.

Toy Story 3

The famous kid-friendly film is getting a part three as Woody, Buzz and friends hit film screens once again.

Shrek Forever After

The green ogre and friends return for part four of the most succesful animated franchise ever.

Salt

Angelina Jolie leads a film about a CIA agent accused of being a Russian spy.

Gulliver's Travels

It's been talked about for ages, but will it live up to the hype?
