Over the weekend I went to an event I’ve been looking forward to for such a long time – the More FM Winery Tour. The bestie and I went along to the Villa Maria vineyard on Saturday armed with our chairs, blanket, chilly bag filled with goodies and the expectation of a good time.

And after a brief period of rain (which caused me to curse, believing that after attending the rained out and cancelled Lionel Richie concert last year I am a curse to vineyard concerts) the sun came out shining and the concert went on as planned. And a good time was most definitely had.
Happily partaking in a couple of the bottles of wine on offer (the sav actually sold out), we relaxed to Boh Runga and Che Fu. I’m not sure Boh had a wardrobe malfunction, but from our possie half way back, it certainly looked like she was topless. Perhaps a tip for the future – skin coloured clothing doesn’t work too well at all (remember Venus Williams’ undies!).
The main event was just as awesome, with the crowd very much in the swing of things. You don’t need a full review from me though, just trust me that it was ace. After a very enjoyable night out, I’ve put together a trusty list of five great tips for your future attendance at vineyard concerts:
- If there is an option to purchase a return bus fare, do it.
- One bottle is plenty for a night out, but if you must drink more, eat and drink non-alcoholic drinks in between – eating is most definitely not cheating.
- Bring along a low chair - just like my trusty $7 trade me job.
- Bring cash – eftpos queues are ridiculously long, cash lines are almost empty!
- Um, use a bathroom before going, or when you get to the concert. Portaloo’s 3 hours in will never be fun.
So there you go, learn from my mistakes. But enough about that - I’ve got some friends from Palmy coming up to visit this weekend and I think they’re expecting a big night out. I’m sure I’ll have regained energy by the time they’re here, but I’m not sure where I should take them. What are your guaranteed good night out spots?
Soul is always a good place on a Friday - so is La Zeppa if you're up for a few tapas and good vino to boot.
